The Joint Committee (JC) of the ESAs, the three European Supervisory Authorities (EBA, EIOPA and ESMA), is organising the third joint Consumer Protection Day to be held on 3 June 2015 in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. This event will bring together representatives of consumer/investor organisations, national regulators, EU institutions, academics and key market participants, with the aim of discussing consumer protection-related issues in the financial service area. Attendance to this event is not open, as it is by invitation only.
The event aims at strengthening cooperation and ensuring cross-sectoral consistency between the ESAs. It is an important instrument for stakeholders’ consultation strategy, since seeking and promoting a transparent, simple and fair internal market for consumers and investors in financial products and services is a common statutory objective of the three Authorities.
Discussions will focus on three main themes:
- conduct risk and impact of failures in the conduct of financial institutions (such as mis-selling, manipulation of benchmark rates, tax avoidance, money laundering, etc.)
- the next decade in the banking, insurance, pensions and securities sectors;
- the growing digitalisation of financial services and the related challenges that regulation will have to face.
The full programme of the Consumer Protection Day 2015 is available on EIOPA’s website.
